In writer-director Kay Cannon’s version of ‘Cinderella’ starring Havana singer Camila Cabello, Pierce Brosnan will be seen playing the role of the king. While he was seen as the king in an array of films, the former James Bond will be entering Disney’s line of live-action fairy tale reboots with this project.
The film is a feministic musical comedy, which gives a fresh take on the traditional Cinderella story. This Cinderella is an ambitious young woman, whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow. While specific plot details remain under wraps, Billy Porter reportedly said that he is calling the movie “a Cinderella for the #MeToo era”. He also mentioned that the filming will begin in February 2020, and that he has only had initial conversations about the film on the phone.
This adaptation will feature Billy as the fairy godmother, Idina Menzel as the stepmother and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, and it also marks the acting debut of Camila, who will be integrally involved in the film’s music.
Cinderella is slated to release on February 5, 2021.
