The director of the latest addition to the ‘John Wick’ franchise, Chad Stahelski, shared in a recent interview that the film will be different from its predecessors. He shared that the ‘High Table storyline’ reached its finality in the last four films, meaning fans of the franchise can expect something completely different this time.
The director talks about the film and future projects of 'John Wick' franchise
In a recent interview with Empire, the director of the franchise shared his thoughts on making the new film and what the audience may think about when the trailer finally drops.
He shared that “The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up, so the only way to do a [fifth film] is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy fuck… I have to see that.’”
Three new projects so far in the ‘John Wick’ franchise
The franchise is yet to die down, as their latest and fifth installment, titled ‘Ballerina’, is set for release on June 6 this year. Other than that, the franchise is also getting its very own TV show. Another film, which is going to be completely animated, will also be released soon. The TV show shares the prequel story and showcases Wick’s departure from being a full-time assassin. The film titled ‘Under The High Table’ is currently in production and does not have a solid release date. It, however, has still managed to create major buzz online.
The director shared that “The John Wick TV show and the animation are big priorities. Our idea is to try some things and explore some threads and use those two properties to catapult us forward into the ideas for ‘
John 5’”.
The film ‘Ballerina’ starring Ana De Armas follows her as assassin Eve Macarro. The official logline for the film reads that the film is about an “assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma organisation [who] sets out to seek revenge after her father’s death.”
