Emerald Fennell, who won an Oscar for her breakout film *Promising Young Woman*, is now adapting the classic novel *Wuthering Heights* by Emily Brontë into a new movie. The leading roles of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff will be played by Oscar nominee Margot Robbie and BAFTA nominee Jacob Elordi.
As the film moves into pre-production, MRC and LuckyChap, the co-founded production company of Robbie, are set to produce it. Fennell, known for her distinctive storytelling craft, is set to pen, produce, and direct the film. She previously collaborated with LuckyChap and Fennell on *Promising Young Woman* and the 2023 film *Saltburn*.
Fennell said she was doing an adaptation of Wuthering Heights in early 2024, posting a teaser on the socials with the most famous quote from the book: "Be with me always – Take any form – Drive me mad." There wasn't much to know about it then except that MRC is the producing studio behind it. That same MRC which produced Saltburn.
Casting Robbie and Elordi brings added enthusiasm to the project. For one, Robbie, who also produced *Barbie* through LuckyChap, is effusive about Fennell's ability to create immersive, thought-provoking stories. For his part, Elordi comes on the strength of a breakout role as Elvis Presley in *Priscilla* and the lead in *Saltburn*. He plays Heathcliff, a character of intense, even tortured, nature.
Although Robbie has been working with Fennell in the backroom, it's her first time on screen for one of her films. She has publicly proclaimed adoration for Fennell's filmmaking, saying that she pulls audiences into dark and often unexpected storylines. In reference to *Saltburn*, Robbie said Fennell was tapping into the "most depraved parts" of the viewer's mind and going all the way to make them talk about things for weeks on end.
Robbie Watt's Agenda for Next Year Robbie has got the following work lined up in his agenda: *A Big Bold Beautiful Journey*, and it is going to release this coming May 2025. On the other hand, Elordi has *The Narrow Road to the Deep North* and Guillermo del Toro's *Frankenstein* in his plate.
*Wuthering Heights*, all set to start shooting in 2025, U.K. is full of anticipation of Fennell's new adaptation of the classic novel.
Deadline reports that Robbie, Elordi, and LuckyChap will be attached to the film.
