Spanking new Batsuit, Batmobile leave fansites buzzing
No, there aren't any nipples. For every fanboy , that must have been the darkest nightmare as they waited for the new Batman to emerge. But the picture tweeted on Tuesday by Zack Snyder -director of the Man of Steel sequel featuring both Batman and Superman -has finally allowed them to exhale, in relief.

In the hours since this first official picture of the new Batman (played by Ben Affleck; you can spot his dimpled chin here) was released, fansites have started buzzing with intense debates.
1x1 polls
Is it all-black? Have the wrist blades changed?
And wait, how short are the ears? Understandably , the picture hides lots more than it reveals. Notice, you can hardly see the utility belt. Also, we only get a tantalizing glimpse of the spanking new, imposing Batmobile.
But the most interesting detailing is on the torso itself. The suit, which accentuates the rippling muscles and veins, seems supple, stretchable and will probably give greater mobility to the superhero. A far cry indeed from the Kevlar armour that
Christian Bale sported in the Christopher Nolan series. But then, the Batsuit has had a screen history as storied as the men who've played Batman.
Michael Keaton's outfit in Tim Burton's Batman (1989) and Batman Returns ('92) was classy all-black, in keeping with the dark and uncertain fate of Gotham in the grip of supervillains like Joker and Penguin.

Then came Joel Schumacher. In his two films -Batman Forever (95) and Batman & Robin ('97) -he added gloss to the suit, a highlighted codpiece and yes, those infamous nipples. Batman went campy and the franchise nosedived. Val Kilmer, who was Batman in the first Schumacher film, never recovered and went into movie wilderness. George Clooney , the other Batman, had to wait for Danny Ocean to re
surrect his career.
But then, Christopher Nolan changed all that. He gave Bale a heavy-duty , indestructible Batsuit in Batman Begins (2005). Yes, Batman couldn't move his head sideways, but that problem was modified in the two later films -Dark Knight ('08) and Dark Knight Rises ('12) -as the cowl was reshaped. And now we have Affleck as Batman. Will he be able to beat Bale's dark, brooding portrayal? Will this Batsuit go back to Frank Miller's depiction in the comic series? We'll wait for the answers. But as of now, thank God there are no nipples!
