Just recently, the young cast of prequel series 'Dune: Prophecy' had exciting exposure to their roles for the first time ever. Speaking with 'CBR',
Jessica Barden, Chloe Lea, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and
Josh Heuston discussed their respective roles and what fans can expect from this series as it digs deep into the origins of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
Jessica Barden, who plays the younger Valya Harkonnen, as portrayed by Emily Watson in the series, described playing a role of anger and ambition. She described Valya as feeling she is meant to be in control and will do whatever it takes to take power from her family for herself. Barden added with a smile that her character keeps little to herself, not even her frustration, letting all sorts of sayings fly. Externally, however tough that makes her sound, Valya's motivations are actually based on her desperate loyalty for her family.
Chloe Lea plays the role of Lila: the character who feels like an outcast. In the series, Lila will embark on the main journey of self-discovery and finding her position in Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. She is a teenager and lost at the same time and simply cannot grasp where she comes from, explains Chloe Lea. Lila's quest for belonging and purpose adds a vulnerability dimension to the character, making her reachable to anyone who might have felt lost at any point of their lives about the path to follow.
Sarah-Sofie Boussnina plays the Princess Ynez, heiress to the throne of the Golden Lion. She does mention pressures she has to confront from the sisterhood traditions and the kind of responsibilities a princess would carry along. Boosnina defined Ynez as a person prepared to take up her position as the future ruler but remained focused on doing just that on her own conditions. As she described her, Ynez emerged as independent, rebellious, and a warrior not in a place to let go of things that they perceived as rightful even though they were the Royals.
Josh Heuston plays Constantine Corrino, a man with an inner struggle unique among characters within the film. This inner struggle says Heuston, allows him to be between two situations where he needs to redeem the fantasies left behind by his father and shake off battles against personal demons -addictions to substance. As Heuston does portray Constantine, he will demonstrate the struggles of these two opposing elements of his self making this an intense emotionally charged performance.
The cast of 'Dune: Prophecy' is anxiously waiting for fans to share in the varied journeys of their characters as each contends with different issues within power struggles, personal battles, and high stakes within a drama-filled world.
