In a recent interview, Will Smith’s kids Willow and Jaden baffled the world with talk of unauthentic schools, opposites of apples and prana energy. Remember all that time you spent thinking of answers to deep, philosophical questions someone would one day ask you in a high-profile interview after you become famous? Looks like Will Smith’s kids never did that, which is why when they recently gave their first joint interview, nobody could figure out what they were talking about.
Jaden Smith, 16, and
Willow Smith, 14, Will and Jada’s free-spirited children, think that time does not exist, there’s no novel cool enough for them to read, babies have prana energy and school is not authentic because it ends. No, don’t start shaking your head already, you have this whole article for that. Here are the choicest gems from this interview, and the many other times Jaden and Willow made it to the top of our list of ‘What The Hell Were These Celebrity Kids Thinking?’
ALSO READ: Hollywood’s star kids and their starry livesThe most bizarre interview of all time This interview will go down in history as the craziest, nuttiest thing any celebrity kid has ever done. When asked about their experience of time, Willow says, “I mean, time for me, I can make it go slow or fast, however I please, and that’s how I know it doesn’t exist.” At one point, Jaden says, “When you’re thinking about something happy, you’re thinking about something sad. When you think about an apple, you also think about the opposite of an apple.” The question that demands to be asked here is – what is the opposite of an apple? But we don’t blame the interviewer because we don’t really know what’s going on here either. But the best part of the interview is when these barely-adults talk about babies. Jaden says, “When babies are born, their soft spots bump – it has, like, a heartbeat in it. That’s because energy is coming through their body, up and down.” Wait, what? But it seems like only Willow knows what her brother is talking about, because she says, “Prana energy,” to which Jaden adds, “It’s prana energy because they still breathe through their stomach. They remember. Babies remember.” Yes, babies will forever remember their soft spots bumping.
When Jaden tweeted about the uselessness of school So we all hate school. That’s the first condition to being a student. But Jaden’s hatred for school is a long-standing theme in his life. In the aforementioned interview, he says, “Here’s the deal. School is not authentic because it ends. It’s not true, it’s not real. Our learning will never end. The school that we go to every single morning, we will continue to go to. Kids who go to normal school are so teenagery, so angsty.”
In September 2013, Jaden wrote a string of tweets about education, such as, “School Is The Tool To Brainwash The Youth,” “Education Is Rebellion” and “If Everybody In The World Dropped Out Of School We Would Have A Much More Intelligent Society”. The capitalisations aren’t ours, they’re Jaden wanting you to know that he means business. These tweets were heavily criticised, primarily because Jaden likes to talk about dropping out and going to shop at Cartier every weekend in the same year.
When Jaden Wanted to be An emancipated minor For his fifteenth birthday, Jaden didn’t want a car or anything that can be considered remotely normal (but that’s because he has prana energy on his side). He wanted to be an emancipated minor. In an interview, Will Smith had said, “He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place. If kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand.” But you shouldn’t understand it, Will Smith! That’s why you’re the dad. But he’s having none of that. His oft-criticised parenting style is different. “We generally don’t believe in punishment. From the time Jaden was five or six, we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life,” he has said. Later, Jaden cleared the emancipation speculation on The Ellen DeGeneres Show by saying, “Everything at his (Will Smith’s) house is free. So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I’m going to be there for 20, 30 more years.”
When Jaden explained patterns Jaden seems to have a knack for giving mind-boggling joint interviews. In May 2013, while promoting their film After Earth, the father-son duo gave an interview that revolved around patterns. Sample this:
Will: I’m a student of patterns. At heart, I’m a physicist. I look at everything in my life as trying to find the single equation, the theory of everything.
Jaden: I think that there is that special equation for everything, but I don’t think our mathematics have evolved enough for us to even – I think there’s, like, a whole new mathematics that we’d have to learn to get that equation... It’s beyond mathematical. It’s, like, multidimensional mathematical, if you can sort of understand what I’m saying... Like you (Will) worked in your family business with your dad. I’m just working in my family business with my dad. Patterns, boom. Boom, indeed.
When Willow was clicked in bed with a 20-year-old When Willow was 13, actor Moises Arias posted a picture on his Instagram where he was lying shirtless in bed with her. Following heavy backlash, he took the photo down. The picture, taken during the infamous Coachella festival, caused a furore, and an investigation was carried out by Child Protective Services on Jada and Will. Later, a source had said, “There has been no evidence presented that Willow has ever been in any danger around Moises, or that she has ever been physically or emotionally abused. It’s likely the investigation will remain open for the next two weeks out of an abundance of caution, with no findings of reprimand against Will and Jada. Willow is a very well adjusted, smart and articulate young lady.”
At the time, Jada had reacted sharply to the allegations that she wasn’t a responsible parent by saying, “There was nothing sexual about that picture in that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it. You’re acting like covert paedophiles and that’s not cool.” Willow had been in the news several times before this for her racy Summer Fling video when she was 12, shaving off her head when she was 11, and getting a tongue piercing the same year (which she later said was fake).
