A fresh multi-camera sitcom titled 'Almost Paradise,' is in progress and it is set to star Brooke Shields and David Spade. The upcoming comedy series will offer a humorous take on life stranded on a deserted island a playful twist reminiscent of The Blue Lagoon meets Gilligan’s Island.
According to Deadline, 'Almost Paradise' is being penned by Modern Family writer Danny Zuker, with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment producing the project. The sitcom will follow a married couple who have spent decades stranded on an island, turning their survival story into a lighthearted and family-friendly comedy.
Interestingly, the inspiration for the series emerged from a casual meeting between Shields and Kaplan. The idea gained momentum, eventually leading to Spade joining the project as well. The Shields and Spade share some history, having previously worked together on 'Just Shoot Me!,' where Zuker was also a consulting and co-executive producer.
While no official contracts have been signed yet, both Shields and Spade have actively participated in pitch meetings and development discussions. If the project moves forward, the two actors are expected to play lead roles as the stranded couple.
The network has reportedly commissioned two scripts for 'Almost Paradise,' aligning with its renewed focus on multi-camera comedies. In recent years, Fox shifted its programming strategy toward single-camera sitcoms, making this project a potential return to its earlier roots. The network has previously worked with Spade, Kaplan, and Zuker on shows like Snake Oil and HouseBroken.
Brooke Shields also boasts experience in multi-camera sitcoms, having starred in 'Suddenly Susan,' which ran for four successful seasons. Meanwhile, David Spade is well-known for his comedic roles, notably on Saturday Night Live and several hit sitcoms over the years.
If 'Almost Paradise ' receives the green light, it could offer viewers a refreshing blend of nostalgic storytelling and contemporary comedy. With a seasoned cast and creative team behind the scenes, the sitcom has strong potential to become a standout addition to the network's comedy lineup.
