Todd Phillips directorial 'Joker' starring
Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role has done very well at the domestic box office. The film is edging close to create history by becoming the highest grosser English language film in India. The film had a target audience spanning only Tier A cities and high-end multiplexes and has performed very well in the intended segment.
As per the latest report on the Boxofficeindia.com, in its third week, the film has managed to rake in Rs 7.50 crore till now.
The film has managed to collect a total of Rs 63.37 crore in twenty-three days at the box office.
If the film is able to get some collections after the third week, then it could become the highest grosser for a film released in English only. The film released only in English as it did not have the content to have a Hindi or regional language release. Currentlt, the record of highest grossing English language film in India is held by
Leonardo DiCaprio's 'Titanic'. 'Joker' needs to earn around Rs 65 crore nett to acheive the feat.
The film, which tells the origin story of DC universe Batman's most contemplated villain, clashed at the box office with Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer action thriller 'War' and Chiranjeevi starrer period drama 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.' The film hardly registered any collections from the mass centers.
Helmed by Todd Phillips, the film follows the life of Arthur Fleck (essayed by Phoenix) as an aspiring stand-up comedian and his transition into becoming the Joker. Fleck will be seen as a man struggling to find his way in Gotham's fractured society.
Apart from Phoenix, the movie also features
Robert De Niro, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
