Shantilal Mukherjee to sing for 'Chhayamoy'

Throughout his career as a stage artiste, he had shied away from one thing ��������� singing. But Shantilal Mukherjee recently courted the mic for Haranath Chakraborty���������s ���������Chhayamoy���������.
The actor says, ���������My guru, the late Ramaprasad Banik, too couldn���������t make me sing ever. My mother has also been fiercely against my exercising the vocal chords.So, when the film���������s composer, Debajyoti Mishra, approached me, my answer was ���������no���������. But he wouldn���������t give up and asked me to join him at the recording studio on April 17.���������
Shantilal, who plays Kali kapalik in the film, wasn���������t the only choice for the song. ���������Debu (Debajyoti) said if I fail, he would approach Kharaj (Mukherjee). In fact, on the day of the mahurat, I remember him asking me to sing ���������Akash bhora���������. I had merrily turned the song into Shantilal Sangeet. But at the studio, his encouraging words worked wonders. While my friends, Kharaj, Rajatava and others said that I���������ve done an irreversible damage to music, my mom told me, ���������Na shunle biswas korbona���������,��������� says the actor.
The composer, however, is a happy soul. ���������I didn���������t know Shanti could sing so well. He has done a better job than many singers,��������� says Debajyoti. All���������s well that ends well.
