The actors roles in Aborto have shades of some of Satyajit Rays immortal characters Arindam Sils Aborto will see Tota Roychoudhury and
Abir Chatterjee play roles that have shades of some of Satyajit Rays immortal characters. No wonder the actors had a tough job getting under the skin of the men they played.
Tota, who plays Shyamal Sen, a corporate honcho in the movie, had to totally reinvent himself.
Shyamal comes from a typical north Kolkata joint family but is very ambitious. His rival is Runu Sanyal, played by Saswata (Chatterjee), he says, adding that the reference point for this character is
Simabaddhas Shyamalendu Sen. But Arindamda had an iron grip, making sure that the character has its uniqueness, admits Tota. So how did he prepare himself? I have friends in the corporate sector and have fashioned myself on a dear friend, who is a corporate bigwig married to one of the leading ladies in Tollywood. His body language, look, attitude everything has influenced me, says the actor. And was it difficult to play the on-screen rival to a powerful actor like Saswata? He is a wonderful co-star. We went to the sets thinking about the film and not our individual selves, Tota says.
Abir, on the other hand, is playing a cricketer. I am an IPL player, very successful and minting money. Predictably, I have a huge female fan following, he says. Though Abir loves wielding the willow in real life too, he had to completely change the way he carries himself. There are also references of Samit Bhanjas character in
Aranyer Din Ratri. My body language is different and thanks to Sulagna, my look is very distinct. Players are often a bit superstitious and I will be seen wearing a lot of amulets. I am sporting a goatee in the film and wear bright colours and checks, says Abir. We sure would love to see the magic they bring alive on screen.
Aborto will release on March 1.
