Playing Apu in ‘Abhijatrik’ is a dream come true for Arjun Chakrabarty

Bengali movie buffs will soon relive the world of Apu — the central character of Satyajit Ray’s ‘Apu Trilogy’ in Subhrajit Mitra’s period film ‘Abhijatrik — The Wanderlust of Apu’. It’s Arjun Chakrabarty who will essay the iconic character Apu and he is equally thrilled to be a part of the film just like his director.
“It’s an honour to be a part of such an ambitious project, especially since there is already so much cinematic history attached to Apu and his universe.The script is unlike any other that I have worked on, so far. I am eagerly looking forward to this journey. It is up to people to compare me with Soumitra kaku (uncle). My portrayal of Apu will not be inspired by his role. I will go by the brief of my director. Also, I will be sharing the screen with my father for the first time on the celluloid. So, that is a huge plus for me,” an excited Arjun told ETimes in an exclusive chat as sharing the screen with father Sabyasachi Chakrabarty for the first time is no doubt a thrilling experience.
Seasoned actor Sabyasachi will portray the role of Apu’s globetrotter friend. The cast of ‘Abhijatrik’ has already made everyone buzzing about the film. Arpita Chatterjee will be seen as Leela, Sreelekha Mitra plays Ranu di, Ditipriya Roy as Aparna and Sohag Sen playing Ranu’s elder sister, among others essaying key roles.
In the film, Apu will relive his childhood through the eyes of his son, visiting Benaras and his village Nischindipur.
