Whether it Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta or Anirban Bhattacharya, Byomkesh Bakshi is now the most popularly portrayed literary character on Bengali screens. And
Sayantan Ghosal is now introducing yet another Byomkesh in
Parambrata Chatterjee in his Puja release ‘Satyanweshi Byomkesh’.
Many are speculating that the USP of this new Byomkesh adaptation is the political context of its story.
Speaking about the same Sayantan says people will get to know some unknown traits of the iconic sleuth.
“In Byomkesh stories, he [Byomkesh Bakshi] is often sent to Delhi for certain work. However, very few stories mention what he actually does in Delhi. In the trailer, Ajit is heard saying that since the audience is more interested in the aspects of human relationships, stories of revenge, he carefully chooses not to document those details.
However, we have attempted to bring alive those aspects in this film. Satyanweshi Byomkesh is set in the Calcutta of 1971, when the Bangladesh liberation war and the Naxal movement created unrest around the state and the country,” explains the young director who has previously made a widely successful Byomkesh web series.
There will be inevitable comparisons. So, how he plans to counter it? The young director gives a prompt reply:“I know Byomkesh has been imagined and re-imagined many times lately. We know there will be comparisons. We are prepared to deal with it. But we wanted to make this film different from the other Byomkesh films. Our target audience is between the ages of 18 and 45, who are used to new web spaces. We have tried to make the film attractive for them.”
Beside parambrata in the titular role, ‘Satyanweshi Byomkesh’ also stars
Rudranil Ghosh along with Gargee Roy Chowdhury, Suprobhat Das, Anjan Dutt in key roles. The detective thriller will release on October 2.
