Durgapur Junction is packed with thrilling twists, says director Arindam
Director Arindam Bhattacharya’s Durgapur Junction revolves around a wave of mysterious deaths that rattles the city of Durgapur, leaving the local police baffled. With no clear leads, the case is handed over to the CID—but even months later, answers remain elusive. Just when the investigation seems to hit a dead end, a bold journalist steps forward with a crucial clue that could crack the case wide open.
Vikram Chatterjee stars as Soumya Sen, a sharp and determined CID officer known for his razor-sharp instincts and unshakeable focus. He prefers action over words and will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. Swastika Mukherjee plays Ushahsie, a fearless journalist with a passion for uncovering the city's darkest secrets. Her deep dives into political and criminal stories make her an essential piece of the puzzle. Ekavali Khanna appears as Gouri, the no-nonsense Deputy Superintendent of Police and Soumya’s commanding officer, who supports them in solving the case. The film shows how Soumya and Ushahsie navigate a web of deceit, danger, and unexpected twists in a gripping quest for justice.
Swastika: I am happy that I got to play a journalist’s character—an investigative journalist—after 15 years. I’m even more excited that Ushahsie is not a grieving mother mourning her child’s death or disappearance, as I have often portrayed in the past. Ushahsie is like me in many ways—she speaks her mind without thinking twice. There is an undercurrent of tension, a complicated equation, and also an unexplained chemistry between Soumya and Ushahsie, which I think the audience will enjoy watching. On top of that, I love watching thrillers, so acting in one was a lot of fun. But watching in romantic films is something I am looking forward to.
Arindam: Swastika delivered a brilliant performance as an upright journalist. Her role was not only pivotal to the story but also rich in complexity, and she portrayed it with depth and conviction. Vikram, on the other hand, took a refreshing detour from his usual romantic roles to play a rugged police officer. He brought a raw intensity to the character, perfectly embodying a no-nonsense officer who questions the system, is mentally sharp, and relentlessly result-oriented. What made his performance even more compelling was his ability to improvise local slang and add natural touches that made his character even more authentic. Filming this project was a lot of fun. There was great energy on set, and the creative spontaneity added a lot to the final product. The story is packed with twists and turns that will keep viewers guessing right till the end. We’ve used these elements to craft an engaging and enjoyable thriller that we hope the audience will thoroughly enjoy.

Vikram: I loved essaying Soumya Sen—a fearless, angry CID officer in this thriller that deals with a medical scam, a subject hardly explored in Bengali films. In this film, Bhebli di (Swastika) and I improvised a lot on the spot, both in terms of the script and dialogue, to make it more powerful and impactful. It was eventually beautifully executed. In fact, an action choreographer was appointed at the last minute to help us shoot the climax sequence. Thanks to our director for giving us that space, as our joint mantra was to make a good thriller. My camaraderie with Bhebli di was excellent, and it only grew stronger after this film. She has taught me the subtle nuances of acting and body language, which have enriched me as an actor. Bhebli di is overtly punctual and that is something I admire.
