‘Akash Ongshoto Meghla’: Factory lockout, political turmoil set the stage of Rahul, Rudranil’s first film together

Joydeep Mukherjee’s film ‘Akash Ongshoto Meghla’ is inspired by two short stories by Swapnomoy Chakrabarty, ‘Potakar Kapor’ and ‘Merudando’, the critically acclaimed film connects apparently disconnected stories of two men who have lost their way of life as a consequence of unexpected lockout of a factory.
Actors Rudranil Ghosh and Rahul Banerjee play the two protagonists. While Basabdatta Chatterjee will be seen opposite Rahul, Ankita Chakraborty plays Rudranil’s wife in the film.It also stars Daminee Benny Basu, Sankar Debnath, Debdut Ghosh, Rumki Chatterjee, Kaushik Kar, Sudip Sarkar and others in key roles.
Rasomoy Bagchi used to work in a Jute mill as a labour until his factory declares an unexpected lockout. Life of Rasomoy, his wife and daughter were shattered all of a sudden. Initially, he actively participates in agitation and protests under the leadership of the trade union to reopen the factory. However, the reality is starkly different and he has to start selling fritters on the street to survive.
Another story unfolds 7-8 years later. Anirban Sarkar a brilliant student of University has to leave his studies midway to search for a job to support his family when his father’s factory declares lockout. Despite all his attempts Anirban fails to secure a suitable job for him. Anandee is his love interest. She is at the mercy of an influential developer who is trying to throw her family out of the old house where they live as tenants. Then suddenly one day Rasomoy and Anirban two despondent men cross each other’s path. The story just begins from here or for the nonce ends here. What happens next forms the crux of the film.
While the screenplay and direction are by Joydeep Mukherjee, the DOP is Saurav Banerjee while Anirban Maity has edited the film. Upali Chattapadhyay has composed the music.
