CoryxKenshin, one of YouTube’s most popular gaming creators, has done something amazing outside of gaming. His new manga series, Monsters We Make, has become a huge success in just a short time. The first volume of the series sold over 200,000 copies in its first week, making it the fastest-selling indie manga in the United States. This is a big deal, especially since it was made without help from any major manga publisher.
CoryxKenshin spent over a year away from YouTube to work on this manga in secret. Fans didn’t know where he was for 18 months, but when he came back, he had a surprise. He revealed the manga with a cool animated trailer, and now it’s one of the most talked-about independent projects in the manga world.

Monsters We Make mixes science fiction, horror, and deep themes like identity, survival, and corruption. It also includes strong Black representation—something CoryxKenshin said was very important to him while creating the story. Volume 2 is already in the works and will be released in late 2025.

What is CoryxKenshin’s Monsters We Make about

The story is set in the year 2114 and follows Jabari Booker, a young music prodigy. He joins a school called New Edyn Academy to grow his talent, but things take a dark turn. Jabari gets caught up in a conspiracy that includes dangerous mutant creatures and a shady tech company.
CoryxKenshin said the manga is a “playground” for his ideas. He was inspired by anime like Dragon Ball Z, Attack on Titan, and characters like The Raikage from Naruto. Through Jabari, he wants readers to see a powerful Black hero—someone who could inspire others just like Goku inspired him growing up.
Fans are also hoping that Monsters We Make will get an anime adaptation in the future. Cory has said he would love that, especially since he’s passionate about fight scenes and anime storytelling. With the success of Volume 1, that dream might come true sooner than expected.
