VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday dismissed three petitions filed by former chief minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu in three different cases.
The high court dismissed two regular petitions on technical grounds that his judicial remand in another case cannot be considered as deemed custody in other cases for granting regular bail.
In the third case, in which Naidu filed anticipatory bail, the high court dismissed it on the ground that the investigation is in final stages.
Naidu filed regular bail applications in alleged Inner Ring Road (IRR) scam case and the case registered by Mudivedu police post violent incidents at Angallu in Annamayya district.
After getting arrested in skill development scam case, Naidu moved high court seeking regular bail in these two cases. Naidu’s counsels argued that a regular bail can be granted to an accused when he is arrested in some other case and sent to judicial remand. However, the investigation agencies refuted the argument saying that judicial remand in other case cannot be considered as deemed custody in all cases.
Justice K Suresh Reddy heard the matters on the question of law regarding deemed custody issue and also on the merits of the case and reserved orders. While delivering judgment, he dismissed the regular bail applications in IRR and Angallu cases on the ground of deemed custody.
In alleged Firbernet case, Justice Suresh Reddy observed that the anticipatory bail application is being rejected on the ground that the investigation has reached final stages. As the investigation is about to attain finality, anticipatory bail cannot be granted at this stage, he said while dismissing Naidu’s petition.
