Mumbai: A 48-year-old Andheri resident was defrauded of Rs15 lakh in an elaborate parcel scam. The victim, who works as a graphic designer at an online marketing firm, was threatened with arrest over a supposedly intercepted Taiwan-bound package containing drugs, passports and a laptop. The fraudsters convinced him to transfer money after claiming they would verify his funds and return them, whilst also revealing his Aadhar card details to establish credibility. The scammers impersonated a DCP-ranked officer currently posted as security officer to the Maharashtra Deputy CM. The West Cyber police station has contacted banks to freeze the recipient accounts. and are investigating the caller details.
