Ludhiana: On the second and final day of PAU Kisan Mela, several farmers and organisations were felicitated for their outstanding entries in various agricultural produce competitions and exhibition displays. The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by senior university officials and witnessed enthusiastic participation from the farming community.
In the crop produce competitions, Jarnail Singh from Jagatpura village in Tarn Taran district won the first prize in onion, while Teerath Singh of Sandaur village stood second. For garlic produce, Subhash Chand from Ahmadpur village in Kurukshetra secured the first place, followed by Sukhwinder Singh of Mankhera village. Harpreet Singh from Chhabri village won in the tomato category.
In the potato produce competition, Arshdeep Dhillon of Kararwala village came first, while Navdeep Singh of Malikpur Bet village stood second.
In field demonstrations, the department of vegetable science was ranked first, while the departments of soil science and fruit science stood second and third, respectively.
Among the youth groups, FASC Barnala won the first prize, followed by FASC Hoshiarpur and FASC Tarn Taran. In the stall competitions, Preet Directors topped in farm machinery, while GSA Industries secured the first place in tractor-mounted machinery. Satnam Pumps and Motors stood first in electric motors and engines, and Lories Nudsen Electrical led in water-saving tools and machinery. Among the self-help groups, Amolak Fresh Honey Farm, Patiala took the first place, and Rajinderpal Kaur from Chak Sarvarnath village stood second.
The award for agricultural literature sales went to FASC Bathinda and KVK Mansa, securing first and second places respectively. Individual staff members who made significant contributions to literature promotion and stall management were also recognised and honoured.
