Ludhiana: As the civic body moves forward with the major project to provide 24x7 canal-based surface water supply to residents, municipal corporation (MC) commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal reviewed the ongoing works to establish the water treatment plant (WTP) in Bilga village (near Sahnewal) on Tuesday.
Dachalwal also inspected the ongoing works to establish overhead water reservoirs (OHSRs) in Children Park near Civil Hospital, Giaspura, Focal Point, and other areas.
During the inspection, Dachalwal instructed the contractor staff to expedite the works to complete the project within the stipulated time period. Superintending engineer (SE-projects) Parul Goyal, project manager Amit Singh, project director Indivar Sharma, and other officials and contractor staff were present during the inspection.
Officials said a WTP is being constructed in Bilga village, from where treated surface water will be supplied to the city. The first phase of the World Bank and AIIB-funded canal-based water supply project is being undertaken at a cost of around Rs 1,300 crore (civil works).
Dachalwal issued directions to expedite the work of laying supply lines from Bilga village to the city. The inspections are being conducted to assess the situation on the ground, and the contractor was directed to ensure there is no compromise on the quality of work. OHSRs are also being constructed under the project in different parts of the city.
