JIND: Cases of marital disputes among NRI couples are increasing. Haryana State Women's Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia stated that 21 such cases were reported in February alone. However, Bhatia who was in Jind on Tuesday clarified that this does not necessarily indicate a rise in crime but rather an increase in awareness, as more women are coming forward to report crimes against them. Cases of crimes against women related to marriages among NRI couples are emerging.
Speaking about live-in relationships, she called them a curse. The Women's Commission has received nearly 12,000 cases in Haryana over the past five years, with 60 percent of them related to live-in relationships. Not a single live-in case has been successful. She stated that this system has many flaws and is not practically feasible. "We have not come across a single family, woman, or couple who has said they are happy with the live-in arrangement," she added.
The Women's Commission is also unhappy with the police investigation that gave a clean chit to former Jind SP Samit Kumar in a sexual harassment case. She stated that even though the police have given a clean chit, the commission is not satisfied with the investigation.
She further said, "Based on the statements and evidence provided by the woman, the DSP, the investigating officer, and the accused SP, the Women's Commission took action. Now, the police have given a clean chit, but the commission is not convinced."
Regarding Ranveer Allahbadia, who came into discussion after the India’s Got Latent controversy, she said that the commission objects to his content. "He should consider what kind of content he is presenting to society," she added.
