Mapusa: At a gram sabha, Anjuna villagers have voiced their opposition to the construction project close to Vagator beach. The locals said the concrete construction will disturb the beach ecology. They are also worried that their access to the beach will be blocked. However, the construction of the commercial project has commenced.
A local said that the construction was taking place on Survey Number 354/1, which had been inspected by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
He alleged discrepancies in the inspection report, saying that it wrongly stated there were no sand dunes or vegetation at the site.
He also questioned the validity of the approvals and NOCs issued by the authorities, alleging a lack of an adequate access road to the property.
The local biodiversity management committee, he said, had repeatedly urged forest and environment departments, as well as the GCZMA, to declare the zone a turtle nesting site.
Anjuna sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar said that the panchayat was unaware of the access road situation.
