Minister asks registration dept officials to conduct thorough document verification

CHENNAI: The registration department’s focus remains on ensuring that citizens receive their documents without delays while it maintains proper verification procedures, said Tamil Nadu commercial taxes and registration minister P Moorthy on Monday.

The minister said this while chairing a high-level review meeting at the integrated commercial taxes and registration department complex in Nandanam here. The meeting reviewed departmental performance and infrastructure development.

The meeting evaluated the performance of various officials, including deputy registrars, district registrars and assistant executive engineers. It emphasized the crucial role of regular inspections in maintaining service quality and boosting govt revenue.

Moorthy directed officials to conduct thorough document verification and expedite pending fieldwork. "Timely completion of tasks and proper maintenance of office records are essential for efficient public service delivery," the minister stated during the session.

A highlight of the meeting was the progress report on infrastructure development. The minister revealed that the state govt, under chief minister M K Stalin, had allocated Rs 274 crore for constructing 128 new registration department buildings over the past four years. While 31 buildings are already operational, officials have been instructed to fast-track the completion of remaining projects.

The minister reaffirmed the state govt’s commitment to enhancing public service delivery and operational efficiency.
