Chandigarh: Three University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University (PU) alumnus Rajat Kosh, Puneet Sikka and Rahul Bangar, with the help of their mentor and associate professor, UIET Dr Naveen Aggarwal have come up with an app which will guide you through the most labyrinthine buildings. The indoor navigation app is called, "In maps".

The app will be of immense help to people visiting hospitals and at their wits' end trying to locate a particular ward or clinic. With this app, users can locate the particular room, ward or OPD in a single search, register online for appointment, view doctors' information and consultation timings, contact details, procedure and test charges, search and locate facilities. All these are accessible even without internet or GPS connection.

The app can also be used in other sites such as Elante Mall and Sector 17 Plaza. Students are also developing it for PU buildings and other popular commercial places in Chandigarh such as Rock Garden and Museums. It requires bluetooth sensors to be installed inside buildings and locate user position real time. It is also capable of providing contextual information according to location.

Young UIET investigators are looking forward to building this technology on a large scale. A pilot project of the positioning system will be supported by the design innovation centre, PU to implement in the UIET building. The app is available on Google play store for android 4.4 and above and is coming soon for ios devices.
