Bhubaneswar: Saheed Nagar police here on Monday arrested two men impersonating police officers and recovered counterfeit currency amounting to Rs 1.93 lakh. The accused, Manas Ranjan Senapati (26) and Ashis Swain (23), were residents of Madhusudan Nagar area.
During routine night patrol on Sunday, officers intercepted a vehicle carrying the duo. "Upon questioning, Senapati claimed to be a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), while Swain posed as a constable," a police officer said.
Police authorities discovered and confiscated police uniforms, caps, fraudulent identity cards, badges and appointment letters from them. Following interrogation, they were formally arrested on Monday.
Police commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said, "We are investigating to find out the source of procurement of the fake Indian currency notes. Senapati was involved in a cheating case at Ranapur in Nayagarh district."TNN
