World Water Day: Cauvery aarti illuminates Bengaluru's Sankey Tank

BENGALURU: The serene waters of Sankey Tank came alive with the radiance of flickering flames as Cauvery aarti unfolded on a floating stage Friday evening

Thousands of people witnessed the event from the walkways around the waterbody where seating arrangements were made. The venue was decked up with stunning lighting arrangements and displays.

The event, organised by BWSSB and supported by the state govt, aimed at educating people on the importance of water resources, including saving water, reuse of treated water, groundwater recharge, and rainwater use.

Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar inaugurated the event by pouring water he had brought earlier in the day from Talacauvery, considered the birthplace of the river Cauvery, into Sankey Tank, before the rituals began. Nine priests flown all the way from Varanasi oversaw the aarthi rituals, leaving the audience awestruck.

A statue of Gangamma, the water goddess, kept on the stage was at the centre of all rituals. The aarti also marked World Water Day being observed on Saturday.
