AGRA: A four-year-old girl was allegedly lured with toffee, taken to a hut, and raped by a 20-year-old man in a village in Mainpuri district. The accused fled after the crime but was arrested by police on Sunday.
The girl's father said she was playing outside their home on Saturday when the accused approached her with the promise of toffees and led her to a nearby hut. There, he raped her and fled. Villagers heard the child crying and alerted the family.
Police have registered a case under BNS section 65(2) (punishment for rape on a woman under twelve years) and Pocso Act. A probe is underway. Locals said the accused, a resident of Kanpur, was staying with a relative in the village and was known for alcohol addiction and unruly behaviour while drunk.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the scene and collected key evidence. DSP Santosh Kumar said the child was sent for medical examination and the accused is now in custody. Further investigation is underway.
SHO Avnish Tyagi said, "A team was formed, and after searching multiple locations and recording villagers' statements, he was caught from an area near the village while trying to flee the district."
