NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday set up the National Anti-Profiteering Authority to act against errant businessmen who do not pass on the gains of GST cuts to consumers. B N Sharma, currently posted as additional secretary in the revenue department, has been appointed as the first chairman of the agency.
Four technical members have also been appointed — J C Chauhan, chairman Tax Tribunal, Himachal Pradesh, Bijay Kumar, principal commissioner GST, Kolkata, C L Mahar, principal commissioner GST, Meerut, and R Bhagyadevi, ADG, systems, Chennai.
Sharma has been associated with the formulation and implementation of GST. “As its first chairman, B N Sharma is expected to give a direction to the authority in boosting the confidence of consumers that GST is a ‘Good and Simple Tax’ in the overall national interest,” the finance ministry said.
