31 YO Johnny Gaudreau, star forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets, was brutally killed in a vehicular accident along with his younger brother, 29 YO Matthew, in August 2024. Since then, the Columbus Blue Jackets have involved Johnny Gaudreau in all their activities. For instance, during the Stadium Series between the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets, the NHL organized for the entire Gaudreau family to lead both teams into the stadium.
All the NHL players wore Johnny Gaudreau’s signature style of clothing. Apart from this emotional gesture by the NHL, the NHL also created a massive Johnny Gaudreau jersey of No. 13. This gigantic jersey was carried by a great number of people on top of their heads. They passed it on from one end of the NHL stand to the other end. Johnny Gaudreau is undeniably remembered and cherished by all. He will forever live in the hearts of the people.
The widow of Johnny Gaudreau ends her emotional gratitude for the NHL with - All my love, Meredith Gaudreau
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the NHL, Detroit Red Wings, and especially the Columbus Blue Jackets for honoring John in so many ways during the Stadium Series this weekend. The management, players, wives and fans from both organizations made my family so loved and supported.
Thank you most of all for including our children by making them a big part of all the events throughout the weekend. I know John truly appreciates it as much as I do.
All my love,
Meredith Gaudreau”
