A helicopter engaged in firefighting in South Korea crashed on Wednesday officials said, reported news agency Associated Press.
"A helicopter putting out the wildfire crashed in a mountain area in Uiseong County. We have been told that there was one pilot who was declared dead at the scene," an official with the Gyeongbuk Fire Service told AP.
The incident comes as the country battles wildfires in the southeastern region, where the death toll has risen to 18. Dry, windy conditions have hampered containment efforts, causing power outages and road blockages. Thousands of firefighters are deployed in the operation.
More details on the crash are awaited.
