Exclusive - Sai Ketan Rao: Without a 'godfather' in the industry, breaking in can take years of persistence and countless rejections
Sai Ketan Rao is known for his impressive performances in Indian television and web series. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Raghav Rao in Mehndi Hai Rachne Waali, where his intense and layered portrayal won him a strong fanbase. His chemistry with co-star Shivangi Khedkar was highly appreciated. In an exclusive conversation, the actor talks about his upcoming projects, working in music videos and about the importance of having a godfather in the industry. He also spoke about expanding his career, actively networking, meeting directors and casting agents, and taking on diverse projects.
One music video to the other, you seem to be working back-to-back in music videos. How does it feel ?
Yes, I have been doing music videos back-toback. I’ve just begun my journey with the blessings and support of my fans. 2025 has started on a positive note, and for me, work is work—whether it’s a small ad shoot, a short film, a web series, or a music album. As the age-old saying goes, hard work and determination are the keys to a successful life.
Your fans are waiting for a show or series or film announcement from you. Is there something in the pipeline?
They have been my constant support, my backbone, and so much more. But as an outsider, certain things take time—especially landing a role in a film. However, I’m giving it my best. Apart from that, I’m also working on a web project.
How has 2025 been for you so far?
2025 has kicked off with great momentum, thanks to a few releases and my music albums like Haste Haste. I’m hoping to keep this pace going and stay fully dedicated to all my upcoming projects.
Is it a difficult place to be in if there is no god father in the industry?
Yes, being an outsider without a film industry background makes things quite challenging, especially when it comes to even hearing about casting opportunities. The industry heavily relies on networking, recommendations, and timing. Without a strong insider connection or a “godfather” to guide you, breaking in can take years of persistence, countless rejections, and continuous self-promotion to finally get noticed.
Do you have friends and well wishers in the industry? If yes, who are they?
I may not have a vast network yet, but I’m gradually building connections—meeting directors, casting agents, attending events, and putting myself out there. Most of my friends are those I’ve worked with on previous projects, and that circle is slowly expanding.
