Google recently announced a bunch of AI-powered updates to its Search engine. These changes are aimed at expanding how users can interact with Search.
“Today, we're taking another big leap forward with some of our most significant Search updates to date, using AI to dramatically expand how Google can help you, from finding just the right information you need to exploring any curiosity that comes to mind,” said Liz Reid VP, Head of Google Search.
Video understanding in Google Lens
Google Lens is getting a major upgrade. Users can now search within videos by pointing their camera at a video, ask a question about what they see, and get an AI-powered overview with information and links. For example, users can identify a fish in an aquarium by pointing Lens at it.
Voice and shopping with Google Lens
Google’s image recognition tool can also be used to ask questions with voice. To do that, users can point their smartphone camera and ask a question out loud.
Further, users can click a picture of an item, and Lens will identify it, provide reviews and price comparisons, and direct you to retailers. These updates are rolling out globally on Android and iOS.
Find a song using Circle to Search
Unveiled last month, Android users can now use “Circle to Search” feature to identify songs playing around them. Now, over 150 million Android users can instantly search for music without switching apps.
AI-organised search results for easy exploration
Google is also using AI to organise search results pages, starting with recipes and meal inspiration on mobile. This provides a more comprehensive view of relevant content, including articles, videos and forums.
“In our testing, people have found AI-organised search results pages more helpful. And with AI-organised search results pages, we’re bringing people more diverse content formats and sites, creating even more opportunities for content to be discovered,” the company said.
