"India has all the ingredients to lead the AI revolution," Huang said. "The natural resources, the digital economy, the deep understanding of computer science—all of these elements are present here." He further stressed the importance of India retaining control over its data, asserting that the nation should harness this valuable resource to drive innovation and economic growth.

Time for India to change its positioning

"To elevate yourself (India) from an IT cost reduction industry, from a labour outsourcing industry to become an AI production industry, I think you have got to pursue that with all your might. Every aspect of AI, the natural resources are here. The digital economy is here... so there are lots and lots of data. You have deep understanding of computer science, computing, you have massive resources and in order to be an AI industry, to manufacture intelligence, you need energy, data and the computer science expertise. All of three exists right here," Huang said at the recent Economic Times Conversations.

Nvidia, a key player in the AI industry, has a significant presence in India. A substantial portion of the company's workforce, including senior leadership and engineers, is based in the country. India plays a crucial role in designing Nvidia's chips and developing its algorithms.
