In response to the growing need for AI trust and safety, tech multinationals, consulting firms, global capability centers, and IT services companies are aggressively hiring for specialised roles that focus on the privacy, responsibility, and governance aspects of AI. This surge in hiring comes as companies invest heavily in ensuring that their AI technologies are both safe and ethical.
Companies like Infosys, KPMG, and Accenture are leading the charge in ramping up their AI trust and safety teams. According to data from Teamlease Digital, hiring in this space has increased by 36% year-on-year, with demand expected to grow by 25-30% in 2025. Quess IT Staffing also projects a 15-25% rise in hiring for these roles this year and a cumulative growth of 30-40% over the next 1-2 years.
The specialised roles in high demand include trust and safety specialists, AI safety data scientists, responsible AI analysts, AI policy advisors, ethical AI researchers, AI ethics specialists, data privacy officers, AI risk analysts, and responsible AI and AI governance managers. These roles are critical in ensuring that AI technologies are developed and deployed responsibly.
As reported by Economic Times, Infosys has established a dedicated responsible AI office to spearhead auditing, governance practices, and advanced monitoring mechanisms for AI technology. Balakrishna DR, executive vice-president, global services head, AI and industry verticals at Infosys, stated, "With the rapid acceleration of AI adoption and evolving regulatory landscapes, the importance of specialized roles in AI responsibility has never been greater. Over the past two years, we have significantly expanded our team and continue to invest in hiring specialists."
KPMG is also expanding its responsible AI team in India, seeking multidisciplinary thinkers who can navigate AI complexities beyond traditional software development. Akhilesh Tuteja, partner at KPMG India, emphasised the need for specialists in AI governance & risk management, ethical AI & policy development, and AI security & privacy.
Accenture's chief responsible AI officer, Arnab Chakraborty, highlighted the importance of having the right talent to establish AI governance principles, conduct AI risk assessments, and ensure ongoing monitoring and compliance. "Responsible AI creates the trust that drives adoption of AI at scale, leading to greater innovation and value," Chakraborty said.
Beyond the tech sector, industries such as BFSI, healthcare, telecom, and retail are also ramping up demand for AI trust and safety roles. Kapil Joshi, CEO of Quess IT Staffing, noted that focus on compliance and risk management is driving this demand. In BFSI alone, a 25-30% rise in demand is expected due to concerns around data privacy and algorithmic bias.
Despite the growing demand, India's AI trust and safety talent pool is still expanding, with 79% of employers struggling to find the right talent. Krishna Vij, VP of TeamLease Digital, emphasised the need for specialised education and training programs to address the gap. Companies are partnering with universities to create AI governance programs and upskilling initiatives.
