Gemini Live is now available in Hindi, 8 languages support coming later
Google announced that it is rolling out Gemini Live in Hindi in India, with 8 more Indian languages — Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu — to follow in the coming weeks.
Gemini Live is an AI-powered assistant that responds to questions in real-time, adapts to your conversation style, and allows users to interrupt, ask follow-up questions. It is available for free for all Android phones that have Gemini app installed.
Gemini app is powered by Gemini AI model and can understand as well as combine different types of information, including text, audio, image and video. According to Google, In India, with over 40% of Gemini's Indian language users already relying on voice interactions.
AI Overviews in Google Search to get four Indian languages support
Google has a Gemini model specifically customised for Google Search that provides a quick summary of results, called AI Overviews, so that users don’t have to scroll through multiple links. Currently available in English and Hindi, AI Overviews will be available in Telugu, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi in the coming weeks.
“We’ve found that people prefer using Search with AI Overviews, and they find their search results more helpful. And in our testing, we’ve seen that Indian users listen to AI Overviews responses more often than other countries,” Google said.
Visual capability in AI Overviews
The company also announced that Google Lens will soon leverage Google AI to enable users with video queries. Users will be able to use Lens to search with a video and ask complex questions about things in motion.
For example, imagine that the pressure cooker whistle isn’t working properly. Users can open Lens in the Google app, hold on the shutter button to record a video of it while asking out loud, "How do I fix this?" Google Gemini will analyse it and provide an AI Overview with links to learn more. This capability will soon be available for Search Labs users enrolled in the “AI Overviews and more” experiment, with support for mobile English queries.
AI-powered support guide on Google Pay
Google has also announced that Google Pay will now help users understand credit products with an AI-powered support guide that can now answer users’ questions about repayment cycles, eligibility criteria, EMIs and much more, while providing a link to the relevant, detailed terms and conditions.
