Apple is poised to release iOS 18.1, featuring the highly anticipated
Apple Intelligence suite, on October 28, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The launch, reported in Gurman's Power On newsletter, comes slightly later than initially expected as Apple fine-tunes the rollout.
The delay allows Apple to address potential bugs and ensure its AI cloud servers can handle the influx of traffic from millions of users.
This cautious approach underscores the importance of Apple Intelligence to the company's strategy.
iOS 18.1 will introduce several key features of Apple Intelligence, including enhanced writing tools for text manipulation, a revamped Siri interface, and notification summaries for apps like Messages and Mail. A new "Clean Up" tool in Photos will use generative AI to remove unwanted elements from images.
However, some of the more advanced capabilities will arrive in subsequent updates. iOS 18.2, expected in December, will bring ChatGPT integration, an Image Playground feature, and Genmoji for custom emoji creation. The complete overhaul of Siri, promising more precise app control and personalised responses, is slated for early 2025 with iOS 18.4.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 owners will be the first to access these new capabilities. Rumours have it that iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch early next year, will also work with Apple Intelligence.
