P.K. Subban recently offered a candid evaluation of the Pittsburgh Penguins, specifically criticizing the team's construction around Sidney Crosby. After the Penguins' 8-3 loss to the Washington Capitals, Subban expressed concerns that the team is too small and lacks the necessary depth to be competitive. He highlighted that their undersized defense struggles when facing off against larger, more physical opponents like Tom Wilson.

P.K.Subban blasts Pittsburgh Penguins’ weak defense

“This is a poorly built hockey team; they're undersized, undermanned," Subban said. "They saw they're set up to fail. And to me, the way this team is built, it's inexcusable. They shouldn't be against the biggest team in the league. They're getting outmanned in front of the net. You got a - two small defensemen. They're trying to battle Tom Wilson, it's not going to end good."
Subban also took aim at general manager Kyle Dubas, questioning the direction of the team under his leadership. He argued that with the resources available, Dubas should have built a more competitive roster. He also called for clarity on whether the Penguins are attempting a full rebuild or still trying to contend.

Despite Sidney Crosby continuing to perform at a high level, Subban believes he isn’t getting the support he deserves. He expressed frustration that a player of Crosby’s caliber is being put in a situation where winning is unrealistic.
The Penguins currently sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, trailing in the playoff race by eight points. With crucial games ahead against the Flyers, Bruins, and other top teams, their postseason hopes are fading fast. If the front office doesn’t make adjustments, Subban’s concerns about the team’s struggles may only grow stronger.

Despite the Penguins’ poor season, captain Sidney Crosby was on an unbelievable pace at the age of 36 until the trade talks with Guentzel intensified. Before his recent skid, Crosby had scored 63 points (32G-31A) in 58 games.
