NBC reports that several sources were present to witness the altercation at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, with Schultz said to have been the instigator. The NFL off-season can certainly be underway in full, yet the action just hasn't lost steam, with the Scouting Combine currently staged in Indianapolis. The combine, of course, hosts many decision-makers from throughout the league; general managers, coaches, owners, scouts, draft candidates, and writers, all together. So, many people in close proximity with plenty of access lead to rumors forming.
One such report led to a fiery exchange of words between seasoned journalists Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports. The altercation, according to reports, occurred in a Starbucks inside the JW Marriott in Indianapolis following Schultz's tweet on X that Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady welcomed Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to his home in Montana, where they even skied together.
Per Schultz, “Brady has been actively trying to convince Stafford to join the Raiders, and discussions are ongoing.” This piece of news was shortly refuted by Rapoport on his X account as he posted “Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and Rams QB Matthew Stafford ran into each other at a ski resort in Montana, sources say. ”
He further went on to add that “The meeting, unplanned, was not extensive on in-depth and did not include Brady hosting or recruiting Stafford, despite reports saying otherwise.” Schultz and Rapoport had an altercation at the JW Marriott Starbucks cafe on Wednesday afternoon, as per multiple sources who witnessed the verbal interaction. Schultz accosted the NFL Network senior reporter saying, “If you have anything to say it to me, say it to my f**king face. If this continues, we’re going to have a f**king problem.”
Rapoport then asked Schultz to step back to which the latter once again retorted: “If this happens again, we’re gonna have f**king problem,” Schultz said, or specific words to that effect. “Now I’ll step back.”
When asked about the incident, Jordan Schultz denied using any expletives during the argument. Meanwhile, the speculation surrounding Tom Brady’s alleged attempt to recruit Matthew Stafford was dismissed after Brady’s agent, Don Yee, contacted Rapoport’s colleague, Tom Pelissero. Yee addressed the report directly, stating, “I know that reporters sometimes make mistakes in their haste, but this story’s inaccurate.”
