MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not ruled out retirement: Reports

Aaron Rodgers, after two seasons with the Jets, is considering playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers or possibly retiring in 2025. Insiders suggest the Steelers are the frontrunners, but negotiations are complex. Rodgers may retire if he doesn't secure a fitting deal, with retirement being a viable option given his 20-season NFL career.

After spending the last two seasons with the New York Jets, it's clear Aaron Rodgers will be playing elsewhere in 2025. Reports suggest that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets are actively exploring the possibility of acquiring the veteran quarterback. Aaron Rodgers has not signed on a dotted line yet, so it’s tough to speculate on where he will land. However, insiders have not ruled out retirement either as he hasn't made any definitive public statements on the matter.

Is Aaron Rodgers considering retirement? Speculation is rife as Giants, Steelers battle it out over MVP

Aaron Rodgers has played 20 NFL seasons so it won’t be unusual for him to announce retirement. Insiders are not ruling out retirement since Aaron Rodgers has not addressed the situation. Sports journalist Adam Schefter recently shared his thoughts during an appearance suggesting that he believes the Pittsburgh Steelers are the frontrunners for Rodgers.
"My guess is that he wants to play and my guess is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the leader," Schefter said. "I don't know what Aaron is thinking right now. He's a tough guy to predict,” he said.

It’s uncertain how much Rodgers will charge from Pittsburgh, but it’s likely that they will need to outbid New York. Rodgers owns a residence in New Jersey close to the Giants’ facilities, and he is essentially Pittsburgh’s only viable option unless they consider going back to Russell Wilson, which gives him significant leverage.
Why didn't it happen [Tuesday]? Because they have a gap," Florio said. "I don't know how big the gap is, but it's big enough to prevent it from being bridged immediately. And we'll see which side, if either, bends. Do they each bend a little bit? They need each other, but I think each side looks at it and says, 'You need me more than I need you,’” said media pundit Mike Florio.
It’s evident that Rodgers has limited choices for starting in 2025, with his options primarily being Pittsburgh and New York. He would likely benefit more from playing with the Steelers, as they could provide a better chance of winning. Likewise, for Pittsburgh to have a shot at being competitive in 2025, bringing in Rodgers could be essential for the team. But it’s not entirely unlikely that Rodgers will hang his cleats if he doesn’t find what he’s looking for.
