The Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of NFL history as they prepare for Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles. No team has ever secured three consecutive Lombardi Trophies, but Andy Reid's squad has a chance to break that barrier in New Orleans. Meanwhile, the sting of another postseason exit at the hands of the Chiefs still lingers for the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen, now 0-4 against Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs admitted that he was still haunted by the recent playoff loss to the Chiefs and had dreams about the plays that went wrong.
Josh Allen Reveals He ‘Dreams’ of Missed Opportunities in AFC Championship Loss to Chiefs
Josh Allen spoke with Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press a week following the Chiefs' 32-29 victory over Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. He discussed his thoughts on the Chiefs' defeat.
“It sucks. Just sitting here thinking about everything that you could’ve done differently,” Allen said in the interview with Rob Maaddi. “I’m having dreams about certain plays that I wish I could have back. There’s no easy way about it.”
“There’s 30 other teams right now sitting at home, gonna be watching the Super Bowl from their couch and we’re one of those teams, I’m going to keep doing everything that I can do to make sure that we’re not one of those teams going into the season next year. Gotta let the body heal a little bit, but getting back to work… just making sure I can do everything I can do to get over that hump and win the Super Bowl.”
Allen was visibly distraught after yet another playoff exit at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. As cameras captured his somber walk off the field following the AFC Championship loss on January 26, it was evident that the sting of defeat weighed heavily on him. Despite leading the Bills to six straight playoff appearances and a second consecutive AFC title game, the ever-elusive Super Bowl remains out of reach for Allen and his squad.
Allen’s talent as one of the league’s elite quarterbacks is unquestioned, but the Chiefs once again found a way to neutralize his impact. While he managed 237 passing yards and two touchdowns, Kansas City’s defense effectively shut down his rushing ability, limiting him to just 39 yards on 11 carries and forcing three costly fumbles. These key moments played a significant role in Buffalo’s downfall.
Although Allen refrained from specifying which plays haunted him the most, two fourth-quarter moments stand out. The first came when he was stuffed on a crucial fourth-and-one QB sneak, leading to a Chiefs touchdown and a two-point conversion. The second came when Dalton Kincaid failed to secure a catchable ball late in the game, resulting in a turnover on downs. While some fans criticized the tight end, Allen has made it clear he blames himself for the blunder.
