“I got to give it an 'F'” Ex-Atlanta Hawks guard gets brutally honest on Paul George’s Philadelphia 76ers run

The Philadelphia 76ers' season took a hit with injuries to key players Joel Embiid and Paul George. George's disappointing performance after joining with high expectations and subsequent season-ending injuries contributed significantly to the team's struggles, as noted by former NBA star Lou Williams.

Philadelphia 76ers— once showed signs of a good season run with star powersJoel Embiid and Paul George in the lineup. However, the reality strikes as both George and Embiid are sidelined for their continuous injuries. Since, the Sixers are far from catching a break as they are struggling to hold their sinning stats, standing at just 23-45. Former NBA star Lou Williams, who last played for the Atlanta Hawks, has recently given his honest thoughts on George’s run in the organization.

The Philadelphia 76ers were considered one of the biggest winners of the 2024 NBA offseason after successfully luring All-Star wing Paul George away from the Los Angeles Clippers. The team signed him to a lucrative four-year, $212 million contract as the team envisioned a formidable trio alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. However, as the regular season winds down, the Sixers find themselves in an unexpected and disappointing position— out of the playoff picture.
There is no doubt that Embiid’s injury issues played a crucial role in derailing the Sixers’ campaign, but George’s struggles have been equally significant. A preseason knee injury set the tone for a frustrating season. The 6’8” forward never found his A-game, posting career-low numbers and appearing in just 41 games before being ruled out for the rest of the season due to left adductor muscle and knee injuries.
It has been a concern for the NBA fans and Lou Williams didn’t hold back in his assessment of George’s first season in Philadelphia, giving him a failing grade.
"It was a tough run. It was a tough run for PG. I got to give it an 'F' because, again, we started this year with championship aspirations for this group, and Paul George was that piece they brought in to get them to that point, to get them over that hump," Williams said on Run It Back.
George’s struggles were evident in the numbers— he averaged just 16.2 points per game on 43% shooting from the field and 35% from three-point range. Both figures are well below his career averages of 20.6 points and nearly 38% from deep.

Williams, who started his NBA career with the Sixers and played alongside the legendary Allen Iverson, believes George now has a better grasp of what it takes to succeed in Philadelphia.
"The positive about it is now he understands what Philadelphia is like, understands what it's about. So I look forward to him getting healthy, putting himself back in a position to be respected as the Paul George that we've grown accustomed to seeing play on the basketball floor. And I think he'll have a great season once he gets 100% back," Williams added.

His first season in Philadelphia ended prematurely, and George will now focus on recovery. The Sixers officially ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign after he received injections in his left adductor muscle and knee. His recovery timeline is at least six weeks, which means his offseason training will be crucial for a strong comeback.
