MMA is a kind of sport that poses a threat not only inside the ring but also outside of it. The combat sport demands rigorous training and exercise routines, which sometimes can take a toll on the human body. One such example is the passing away of Jake Sendler, a 21-year-old fighter from Australia who passed away owing to muscle injuries retained from intense training sessions. These injuries led him to suffer from a condition called rhabdomyolysis.

Jake Sendler developed rhabdomyolysis owing to intense workout and exercise regimes

Scheduled to face William Carebs on March 2, 2025, Australian fighter Jake Sendler collapsed in the middle of the same fight. Following this, he was immediately rushed to the hospital. The condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to multiple organ failures in the body. Jake was diagnosed with a condition called rhabdomyolysis. Even though he was suffering from it for a very long time, however, he never realized the intense workout and exercise regimes were leading him to a complete body shutdown.
Rhabdomyolysis is a condition that is triggered by severe muscle breakdowns. IT ultimately leads to the body being flooded with harmful toxins and affecting the organs simultaneously. The fighter was repeatedly undergoing surgeries and was in a constant state of coma. However, even though the fighter fought his best off the ring, in the end, his body gave up to the lethal condition.
Jake's mother, Sharone Sendler told news.com.au, “When we got into the ICU, the doctor said when they opened him up again (in another emergency surgery) there was just too much tissue that had died and there was so much damage, there was nothing more they could do,” She further added, “I said to him, ‘it’s OK baby, you can rest now, you fought so hard’ and I kissed him on the forehead and he passed away. It was the worst moment of my life.”

Jake Sendler was both a PT and MMA fighter. He was known for his knockouts in his academy named, Mat Master’s Academy. Sendler secured a total of five knockouts in his short career of kickboxing.

Following her son’s death, Sharone is determined to raise awareness about the particular condition that creeps in and acts like a silent killer. Her act is for the greater good of the members of the MMA community, which will encourage them for a regular checkup and maintain a good health. The world of combat sports has lost a potential fighter, who could make a mark in the sport.
