Bengaluru gears up for Cauvery Aarti in March: 5 things to know about this grand event
Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, is all set to host the grand Cauvery Aarti on March 21 at Sankey Tank. The event will pay homage to the revered River Cauvery, which is Karnataka's lifeline. It draws inspiration from the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi.
As per reports, Guests and Government Support Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar will attend the grand ceremony. Their presence will underscore the importance of the event, both as a religious ceremony and as a step toward promoting water conservation efforts across the state.
Let’s find out more about this grand cultural event:
Date and Venue: The Cauvery Aarti will be held at Bengaluru's famous Sankey Tank on March 21. This event aims to celebrate the river’s cultural and spiritual significance while raising awareness about water conservation. Nearly 10,000 people are expected to attend the event including government officials and locals.
Significance of Sankey Tank: Sankey Tank is considered Bengaluru’s cleanest lake. It has been chosen as the venue for the Cauvery Aarti but earlier, there were plans to hold the ceremony near the Gaali Anjaneya Swamy temple. But it did not happen because of water quality so Sakey was selected.
Cauvery's Importance: The River Cauvery is considered the lifeline of Karnataka. It is more than just a sacred water body as it provides water to nearly 70% of Bengaluru’s population. More than 2,225 million liters of water is supplied on a daily basis. To recognise this, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is hosting a special puja as part of the Cauvery Aarti.

In addition, water from Bhagamandala, where the River Cauvery merges with two other rivers, will be distributed as 'prasada' to devotees.
The upcoming Cauvery Aarti promises to be a spectacular, grand, stunning and spiritually enriching event. It will unite people in spirituality, devotion and religion while raising awareness about the importance of protecting the region's water bodies.
