Holi, the time to revel in bright colours, joyous splashes, and endless fun, often brings our focus to finding the perfect outfit for the festival. But choosing the right accessories is equally important to keep your look chic, practical and functional. Here’s a breakdown of Holi-friendly accessories and how to style them like a pro.

SHOES
Comfort and colour-proof checks must be the priorities for your Holi footwear, says Aarthi Magesh, a costume designer. “Your choice of footwear can make or break your Holi experience. Stay away from delicate materials like leather and suede, and opt for durable, washable options,” she adds.
STYLING TIPS:
Rubber sliders: Easy to clean and trendy, sliders are perfect for a laid-back Holi look. Pair them with cropped pants.
Canvas sneakers: White or pastel canvas sneakers are stylish, but make sure to spray them with a waterproofing solution beforehand.
Flip-flops: These fuss-free option can be decorated with colourful laces or pom-poms for a festive twist.
SCARVES
“A scarf or bandana is your ultimate weapon against hair damage and stubborn colour stains. It works as an accessory that is always in style,” says Aarthi Magesh.

STYLING TIPS:
Printed scarves: Opt for prints like tie-dye (perfect for the Holi splash) or floral patterns to complement the Holi theme.
Knotted bandanas: Wrap a bright bandana around your head for a playful, retro vibe while keeping your hair safe.
Multi-use stoles: Drape a lightweight stole over your shoulders for added coverage and a stylish finish.
SUNGLASSES
“Shades are a must-have for Holi to protect your eyes from harmful colours and sunlight, especially if you are going all out this year,” says Meghali Sivan, a stylist. “Opt for oversised or wraparound frames for maximum coverage,” she adds and lists out some styling tips.
STYLING TIPS:
Colour-blocked frames: Choose funky frames in bright colours like neon green, yellow, or orange to match the festive vibes.
Reflective lenses: Mirrored sunglasses not only add a cool edge to your look but also shield your eyes from intense sunlight.
DIY covers: Wrap your frames in transparent plastic film to prevent permanent stains from the colours.
WATERPROOF JEWELLERY
“Traditional jewellery may not be the best option for Holi, but waterproof pieces can add that extra sparkle without the worry of damage,” says Meghali Sivan.
STYLING TIPS:
Silicone bracelets: Opt for chunky, colourful silicone bracelets that are resistant to water and stains. Layer them for a boho-chic look.
Plastic statement necklaces: Go bold with quirky plastic necklaces in geometric shapes or bright colours to make a statement. Rubber earrings: Swap your precious metal studs for lightweight rubber earrings in funky designs to add a playful touch.
Pro tips for Holi accessories:
Pre-treat your accessories: Spray shoes and jewellery with a protective waterproofing solution to avoid damage. Match with your outfit: Choose accessories in colours that complement or contrast your outfit for a coordinated look. Go minimal: Less is more when it comes to Holi, so stick to a few statement pieces to avoid a cluttered look.
