NEW DELHI: Starting this summer, travelling to Shimla in toy trains from Kalka will be more pleasant and fascinating as railways plans to run five more trains with Vistadome coaches that will have large glass windows and roofs for passengers to get full view of hills and forests during the trip.
The trial run of trains has been going on for some months. Sources said the first train will be launched soon. At present, only one train with vistadome coaches runs between Kalka and Shimla. Sources said subsequently more trains will be operated to meet the growing demand.
Each of these trains will have five coaches — one executive class, one chair car and the remaining three general coaches.
Recently, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had shared a video of the train, describing it as a new travel experience for passengers visiting the picturesque Himachal Pradesh. The new rake has been inspired by the Glacier Express of Switzerland.
The Kalka-Shimla rail route, managed by the Northern Railways' Ambala Division, is a Unesco World Heritage site. Stretching 96 kilometers, the route is known for its breathtaking views and engineering achievements, including steep gradients and over 800 bridges.
