NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party candidate Abu Asim Azmi defeated NCP's Nawab Malik by a margin of 39, 279 from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency. Azmi got 54,780 votes while Nawab Malik finished fourth with 15,501 votes. Elections in Maharashtra were held in single phase on November 20.

Mankhurd shivaji Nagar is one of the 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra. It falls in suburban Mumbai district and is a general category assembly seat. It represents one of the six assembly segments that form part of the Mumbai North East Parliamentary Constituency.

According to the 2011 Census estimates, the total population of this constituency is 4,17,349, with 100% classified as urban and no rural population. Among this urban demographic, Scheduled Castes (SC) make up 10.81% of the population, while Scheduled Tribes (ST) account for 1.27%.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections for the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency, Samajwadi Party candidate Abu Asim Azmi emerged victorious with 69,082 votes. He defeated his nearest rival, Vithal Govind Lokare from Shiv Sena, who secured 43,481 votes. Azmi's victory was marked by a margin of 25,601 votes, representing the strong support for the Samajwadi Party in the region.

This voters’ trust in this constituency has been with the SP for a long time. For the 2024 elections on November 20, sitting SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi will fight for another term against prominent Mahayuti candidate and Anushakti Nagar's sitting MLA Nawab Malik who filed his nomination to contest on NCP ticket.
