Ballimaran Election Results 2025 Highlights: 'Want to thank the public for making me victorious,' says AAP's Imran Hussain after winning election

As the results of the Delhi assembly elections unfolded on Saturday, the national capital is set for a major political shift, with the BJP returning to power after 27 long years. The saffron party restricted the Aam Aadmi Party to just 22 seats, delivering shocking defeats to top guns, including three-time chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi’s former deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

After winning the election, AAP's Imran Hussain said, "First of all, I want to thank the public of Ballimaran for making me victorious. I hope I will be able to fulfil their expectations and work."

The Ballimaran assembly constituency, in the bustling Chandni Chowk area, saw the victory of sitting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Imran Hussain, defeating former long-time Congress MLA Haroon Yusuf and Kamal Bagri, a sitting municipal councillor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

This is the third time that Hussain won the election. He received a total of 57004 votes. He defeated the others with over 29,000 votes.

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised the necessity for the National Capital Region to have an administration dedicated to public service, as initial results indicate BJP's return after a 27-year gap.

During a press conference, whilst responding to BJP's leading position in the Delhi elections, she stated, "Under PM Modi's leadership, we are very keen that Delhi gets a government which serves its people and this is something which is the need of the hour for attaining Viksit Bharat 2047."

She further elaborated, "The National Capital Region should have a government which serves the cause of the people. I strongly believe that the roadmap which the PM has set for the country should certainly take Delhi to the top priority and serve its people from every point of view..."

Congress candidate from the New Delhi constituency, Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday conceded defeat, acknowledging that the BJP is likely to form the government in Delhi.

Speaking candidly about the situation, Dikshit acknowledged that despite the party raising critical issues during the election campaign, voters may not have been convinced that Congress could form a government.

"As of now, it seems that they (BJP) will form the govt... We raised the issues but I think people thought that we are not going to form the govt - we accept the decision of the people," said Dikshit in a statement, reflecting a sombre acceptance of the apparent outcome.

As BJP maintains its lead in Delhi election results, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit the party headquarters on Saturday evening, highlighting the public's trust in his leadership.

"People of Delhi have shown faith in PM Modi. It's a huge victory for us and the people of Delhi...He (PM Modi) will come to the party headquarters in the evening," Sachdeva said.

At the party's office in New Delhi, BJP supporters gathered to celebrate as initial trends indicated the party's return to power in the capital after a 27-year gap.
The festivities included workers bursting firecrackers, dancing and singing at the party office. Senior leaders, including Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva and party vice president Baijayant Panda, convened at the office to discuss the poll performance.

According to current trends, BJP has secured more than the required seats to form the government in Delhi.

The latest figures show BJP leading in 48 constituencies, while AAP trails with 22 seats. To establish a government in the national capital, a party needs to win at least 36 seats.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate from New Delhi and former chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal lost his assembly seat to BJP's Parvesh Verma.

New Delhi is one of the 70 constituencies in Delhi and falls under the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

In the 2020 Assembly Election, Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the seat with 46,758 votes.

Earlier in the day, social activist Anna Hazare said that the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) current position in the Delhi Assembly elections, where they are trailing, is the result of their "ill-intentions" and missteps.

AAP candidate from Jangpura constituency, Manish Sisodia concedes defeat, saying, "Party workers fought well; we all did hard work. People have supported us as well. But, I lose by 600 votes. I congratulate the candidate who won. I hope he will work for the constituency."

"AAP lost as it failed to understand need to serve people selflessly and took wrong path," said Anna Hazare on Delhi polls trends.

AAP candidate Imran Hussain is leading from the Ballimaran constituency with 55897 votes. BJP candidate Kamal Bagri is trailing behind with a margin of 29887 votes.

The BJP appears set to establish a government in Delhi for the first time since 1998, as Election Commission data indicates their lead in 45 out of 70 assembly constituencies, whilst AAP leads in 25. The EC website reports BJP securing 47.01 per cent vote share until 11.55 am, compared to AAP's 43.16 per cent.

In the prominent New Delhi constituency, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal trails behind BJP's Parvesh Verma by 430 votes after eight rounds of vote counting.
The fifth round of counting shows former deputy Manish Sisodia maintaining a lead of 3,869 votes in Jangpura.

Electoral Commission data reveals that in Kalkaji, Chief Minister and AAP contestant Atishi lags behind BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,231 votes.

Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed optimism on Saturday regarding BJP's prospects of forming the government in Delhi. Majhi said, "We are confident that the BJP will form government in Delhi as people have understood that BJP means development."

"Under the leadership of PM Modi, many development works are going on in the country... People have understood the development is there where PM Modi is there. There will be development in Delhi, the situation is critical in Delhi with pollution. Definitely, BJP will come to power and Delhi will progress," the Odisha CM remarked.

According to initial trends released by the Election Commission, the BJP was ahead in 43 out of Delhi's 70 assembly constituencies, whilst AAP was leading in 27 seats.

AAP candidate Imran Hussain is maintaining a massive lead against BJP candidate Kamal Bagri with 46095 votes.

AAP candidate from Ballimaran constituency is leading with 21945 votes. According to Election Commission of India, AAP is leading over 29 seats. Meanwhile, BJP has crossed the majority mark and is ahead on 41 seats.

BJP supporters started a celebration in front of BJP state office, in Delhi as the assembly election results are in process, on Saturday.

The initial vote count by the Election Commission showed BJP leading in 43 constituencies while AAP maintained an advantage in 27 seats out of Delhi's 70 assembly segments. After three rounds of counting, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal held a narrow lead of 343 votes in New Delhi constituency. In contrast, his colleague Manish Sisodia lagged by 1,314 votes in Jagpura.

The EC data indicated that chief minister Atishi was behind BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by 1,149 votes in Kalkaji constituency after the first counting round.

"The people will give the BJP a decisive mandate. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Delhi will progress alongside the rest of the country. I can confidently say that AAP will be eliminated from the national capital," Bidhuri said.

A young AAP supporter, Avyan Tomar, visited Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Saturday during the Delhi Assembly election vote count, dressed identically to mirror the leader's appearance, complete with sweater, muffler and spectacles. The first standard pupil drew considerable attention from bystanders.

Speaking to ANI, the youngster's father, Rahul Tomar, said, "We always come here on result days. The party has also given him the name of 'Baby Muffler Man'."

AAP candidate from Ballimaran constituency, Imran Hussain, is leading with 11350 votes. According to the Election Commission of India, AAP is leading on 27 constituencies.

BJP is currently leading on Narela, Rithala, Bawana, Kirari, Shalimar Bagh, Tri Nagar, Madipur, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Dwarka, Matiala, Najafgarh, Palam, Delhi Cantt, Kasturba Nagar, RK Puram, Chhatarpur, Sangam Vihar, Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, Ghonda, Mustafabad and Karawal Nagar seats.

AAP has gained lead on 27 seats including Ballimaran, Chandni Chowk, Rajinder Nagar, Greater Kailash, Trilokpuri, Seemapuri and Babarpur seats.

As the Delhi assembly poll counting commenced, Greater Kailash's AAP candidate Saurabh Bhardwaj displayed optimism about his party's victory. He asserted that the exit polls would be incorrect and AAP would establish the government again.

In his statement to reporters, Saurabh Bhardwaj said, "Arvind Kejriwal will become the CM for the fourth time... In most exit polls, AAP has less vote share, because the poor people don't say anything about their vote. They go to polling stations and vote as per their will. The exit polls will be proven wrong as AAP is going to form the govt this time as well..."

Prior to this, Saurabh Bharadwaj visited the Kalkaji temple to seek blessings before the Delhi election results and stated, "Whatever happens, now it is in the hands of the mother goddess."

He expressed certainty about AAP securing sufficient seats to establish its government.

He further stated, "Every attempt was made to remove AAP from government, but the public's blessings are with the AAP. I believe that the public is going to make Arvind Kejriwal the CM for the fourth time. In a few days, he will take oath as the CM. We are getting information from different areas that AAP will get a comfortable majority and make government...AAP will get minimum 40-45 seats."

Sandeep Dikshit, who contested as Congress candidate from New Delhi Assembly constituency, stated on Saturday that any potential post-poll alliance with Aam Aadmi Party would be decided by the party leadership.

In his interaction with ANI, Dikshit said, "I have no idea about the alliance. It is up to the decision of the high command. Let the counting of the votes happen."

Exit polls released on Wednesday indicated BJP's advantage over AAP. However, AAP leadership remained optimistic about their victory, noting that exit polls traditionally undervalued their electoral performance.

BJP's electoral campaign, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticised AAP regarding the pollution in Yamuna River and the refurbishment of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence.

The prime minister employed the terms "Aapda" and "Sheesh Mahal" in his criticism of Kejriwal.

Vote counting for Delhi's assembly polls commenced on Saturday with stringent security protocols in place.

Simultaneous counting is in progress for by-elections in Milkipur constituency of Uttar Pradesh and Erode seat in Tamil Nadu.

The process begins with postal ballot counting, followed by EVM counting scheduled for 8:30 am.

Comprehensive security measures are in effect. The February 5 polling for the 70-seat assembly witnessed 60.54 per cent voter participation.

Whilst AAP seeks its third straight term, the BJP is striving to regain control in the National Capital after a gap of over twenty years.

The voter turnout in Ballimaran was 63.9%, with 98,119 out of 1,53,556 electors casting their vote, as per the data published by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer.

Nine candidates are contesting to be elected as MLA from the Ballimaran seat, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI).
