In 2021, Bollywood star Ranveer Singh was set to headline the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster Anniyan, directed by visionary filmmaker Shankar and produced by Jayantilal Gada. Originally released in 2005, Anniyan starred Vikram in a career-defining role as a man battling dissociative identity disorder. The announcement of Ranveer stepping into Vikram's iconic role generated immense excitement among fans eager to see how the Bollywood star would reinterpret the complex character.

In a candid conversation with DNA, Vikram shared his perspective on the now-shelved project. When asked if he would have liked to see Ranveer reprise his role, Vikram jokingly responded, "I think you should ask Shankar this, he should have made part two with me." However, he sincerely acknowledged Ranveer's potential in the role, adding, "I thought Ranveer would have made a nice Anniyan. I would like to see his version of it because I really like him as a star. I think it would have been interesting to see what he would do with the story."

Despite the initial buzz, the Hindi remake of Anniyan never progressed. Recently, during the promotions of his upcoming film Game Changer starring Ram Charan, director Shankar addressed the project's uncertain status. He revealed that while the collaboration with Ranveer Singh was highly anticipated, the evolving cinematic landscape led to a shift in their plans. Shankar remarked, "Times have changed since the project was first announced. Several pan-Indian films have come, and we are looking to do something bigger."
