In 2006, Shahid Kapoor starred in Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah, portraying Prem, a young man navigating the journey of an arranged marriage. At that time, Shahid found the concept of arranged marriages quite foreign. Fast forward to 2015, Shahid Kapoor entered into an arranged marriage with Mira Rajput. In a recent interview, he shared that he completely endorses arranged marriage as it worked out really well for him and his wife Mira. He also stated that Vivah was his practice session as the same things happened in his life.
Looking back at the film he directed two decades ago, Barjatya said, "Shahid is someone who likes to be involved. I remember the scene when he goes to see Amrita Rao for the first time... I had kept Indian wear for him, but he stepped out in jeans and jacket, so I asked him about it, and he replied that he wanted to make it look comfortable. In the climax, I told him Alok Nath will hold your hand and get you down the horse, and he was like, 'He (Alok Nath) need not worry, I’m good.' So I explained to him that it's a ritual. He also said that he will not wear a pagdi (headgear), and I told him he has to wear it, so he wore it but also said that in his own wedding he will not wear it. But in his wedding, he did all of this (laughs)."
"I told him that this film is going to be a film for the common man, and we have a very good climax, so trust his (character's) innocence and his goodness. When the film became a hit, he said, 'Sooraj ji, suddenly I'm a mass hero... maine to action bhi nahi kiya,' and I replied saying accepting a burnt lady as your wife is a big thing; it’s even bigger than conquering Gabbar Singh," he added.
