Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor has found his film once again on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chopping block.
According to the latest buzz, the star, who is awaiting the release of his film 'Deva' this Friday, January 31, had to trim off a portion of a steamy scene before the film was granted a U/A certificate. The upcoming action-drama starring Shahid in the lead with Pooja Hegde as his leading lady, reportedly underwent 3 key 'modifications'.
Following recommendations by the CBFC, director Rosshan Andrrews was reportedly asked to make changes to a lip-lock sequence which resulted in 6 seconds of the kiss being trimmed out. The other modifications included "foul gestures" and several profane words which were replaced with milder alternatives, in both the dialogue and subtitles. Additionally, the CBFC requested clarification from the filmmakers regarding references to Hutatma Chowk, a landmark in Mumbai’s Fort area.

The film’s runtime now stands at 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 59 seconds.

This isn’t Shahid Kapoor’s first film to face CBFC cuts. His 2024 romantic drama 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya', co-starring Kriti Sanon, had a lovemaking scene reduced by nine seconds. The scene which was originally 36 seconds long was reportedly reduced to 27, as part of CBFC’s requirements before its Valentine’s Week release.
Directed by Andrrews, Deva marks Kapoor's return to the action genre as a fearless cop navigating the thin line between justice and rebellion. Pooja on the other hand, will reportedly play a journalist and the star's love interest in the film.
