R Madhavan recently opened up about his new film, 'Hisaab Barabar' and his penchant for 'relatable' roles. He also revealed the secret of staying relevant.
In conversation with Hindustan Times, the actor highlighted that his ability to stay relevant for 25 years, despite not fitting the typical Bollywood mold of six-pack abs and dance skills, comes from his skill in accurately portraying complex characters, especially those representing the challenges of the current generation.
He further explained that this generation stands out because people from his age group, raised in middle-class households, have excelled globally in fields like IT, politics, and business. Witnessing rapid world changes, they’ve had to adapt quickly, transitioning from STD booths and pagers to smartphones in their lifetime, constantly striving to remain relevant.
Madhavan also mentioned that he has carved a niche as a representation of the empowered common man from Generation X. He points out that unlike before, the common man is no longer seen as weak, and he has carefully observed how to portray this shift in his roles.
He acknowledged that being selective with his film choices can be challenging. When asked if he ever feared being forgotten due to a long break, he explains that maintaining relevance is key. While staying away from films for years could lead to being overlooked, carving a unique niche helps ensure survival in the industry.
Directed by Ashwini Dhir, Hisaab Barabar follows the journey of an ordinary man determined to uncover a massive scam in a private bank. Alongside R Madhavan, the film features Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kirti Kulhari, and Rashami Desai in key roles.
